Intelligent Robots bring the Structural Steel Industry into a New Era
Trois-Rivières, Québec, March 17th, 2014
AGT, a manufacturer of automated industrial equipment, just completed the first installation of the BeamMaster for a structural steel manufacturer in Trois-Rivières, Québec.
After AGT patented its “SelfLearning Technology” in 2011 (and applied it to several custom projects), the company implemented the first in a line of products using this groundbreaking technology of intelligent robotic systems that makes one-off and small batch, robotic production viable.
The BeamMaster is a robust, industrial system (the first of its kind in the world), that assembles and welds structural steel. An operator loads the components into the BeamMaster and it takes over. This fully automated system is currently operating at Nico Métal, in Trois-Rivières.
Based on a 3D CAD model, the BeamMaster analyzes digital inputs and produces a responsive and precise solution for assembling and welding accessories to a structural steel beam. Thanks to its “SelfLearning Technology”, the BeamMaster adjusts the process to meet each unique challenge, accounting for variance in the dimensions and quality of every beam and accessory. Combining 3D scanning cameras and top of the line welding robots, the BeamMaster assembles and welds accessories (end plates, gussets, etc.) to the beam with unmatched quality, precision and consistency.
“It is clear that the BeamMaster system meets the demands of the industry and will allow companies to increase competitiveness, productivity and performance”, explains Éric Bélanger, President and founder of AGT.
In the coming months, AGT will install this innovative system for clients in the US, Europe and South America.
From March 26th to 28th, AGT will attend the North American Steel Construction Conference (NASCC) in Toronto, organized by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). On March 26th, as part of the conference, a chartered jet will fly structural steel fabricators from Toronto to Trois-Rivières to see the BeamMaster in full operation.
